Today, I want to talk about something that many people feel scared of. That thing is being alone.

Most of us think that being alone is the same as being lonely. We think that if we are sitting in a room by ourselves, we must be sad. But I want to show you that these two things are very different.

Alone vs. Lonely

Think of it like this:

  • Being Lonely: This is a sad feeling. It is when you feel like no one understands you or like you have no friends. You can feel lonely even when you are in a big crowd of people.

  • Being Alone: This is just a "state of being." It simply means there is no one else in the room with you.

Being alone is actually a gift. It is a quiet time that belongs only to you. When you are alone, you don't have to please anyone else. You don't have to talk if you don't want to. You can just "be."

Don't Be a Stranger to Yourself

Have you ever met someone for the first time? You ask them questions like:

  • "What makes you happy?"

  • "What are you afraid of?"

We do this to get to know them. But many of us never ask ourselves these questions. We spend so much time talking to others that we become a "stranger" in our own heads.

If you don't know yourself, the quiet can feel scary. But if you use your quiet time to become your own best friend, you will never feel lonely again. Even when you are by yourself, you are with someone you like!

Simple Ways to Use Your Quiet Time

some very easy things you can do to get to know yourself better:

  • Sit and Listen: Just sit for five minutes. Don't look at your phone. Listen to your thoughts. What are they saying? Are they kind thoughts or mean thoughts?

  • Write it Down: Keep a small notebook. Write down one thing that made you smile today. Write down one thing that made you feel worried. This helps you see what matters to you.

  • Do What You Love: Watch a movie that you like, not what your friends like. Eat your favourite food. Notice how it feels to do exactly what you want.

  • Ask a Question: Ask yourself, "If I could do anything today, what would it be?" The answer might surprise you!

Why This Matters

When you know yourself, you become a stronger person. You don't need other people to tell you that you are good or smart because you already know it.

You start to feel safe inside your own mind. The "noise" of the world gets quieter, and your own voice gets louder. This is where true peace comes from.

Remember: You are the person you will spend your whole life with. It is worth taking the time to make that relationship a great one.

Next time you find yourself alone, don't reach for your phone. Instead, say "Hello" to yourself. You might find that you are very good company!
