Hello friends,
We all have those days.
You spill your morning tea. You get a bad message from work. The house is a mess, the kids are shouting, and nothing is going your way.
Suddenly, it feels like everything is falling apart.
When chaos hits, our first reaction is to panic. We get angry. We rush. We try to fix everything all at once.
But panicking never fixes the problem. It only makes the problem bigger.
Very simple rule for a balanced life: You cannot control what happens to you. You can only control how you react.
The next time things go wrong, do not rush. Stop and use this simple 3-step system:
1. Stop and Take One Breath
Do not speak. Do not send that angry text. Just stand still. Take one deep breath in, and let it out slowly. This gives your brain a second to reset. It stops your anger from taking the steering wheel.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has a newsletter.
Yeah. That Arnold Schwarzenegger.
So do Codie Sanchez, Scott Galloway, Colin & Samir, Shaan Puri, and Jay Shetty. And none of them are doing it for fun. They're doing it because a list you own compounds in ways that social media never will.
beehiiv is where they built it. You can start yours for 30% off your first 3 months with code PLATFORM30. Start building today.
2. Ask: "Will this matter in five years?"
Most of our problems are not real emergencies. A broken cup is not an emergency. Being 10 minutes late is not an emergency. If the problem will not matter in five years, do not spend more than five minutes being angry about it.
3. Do the Next Small Thing
When a big problem happens, do not try to fix the whole thing at once. Look for the very next small step. If the room is a disaster, just pick up one toy. If your work is too much, just reply to one email. Small steps get you out of the dark.
You cannot stop the storms in life. Bad days will always come.
But you can choose to be the calm person in the middle of the storm.
Have a peaceful week,
The Balanced Life
